Type 1 Diabetes

What is type 1 diabetes and how can it affect me?

If someone’s body does not produce insulin they are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Due to the lack of insulin glucose in the bloodstream can’t pass through to the body’s cells to be used as energy. What happens is the blood sugar level rises to a high level and its excess is passed through the kidneys and into the urine, which causes more frequent urination. People with type 1 diabetes are treated by introducing insulin into their bodies to balance their body’s glucose levels. Type 1 diabetes was formerly called juvenile diabetes due to the face that most people are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes as children or young adults.

  • Type 1 diabetics are obliged to inject insulin.
  • Only about 10% of diabetics are type 1
